Type of Incident: Possession of destructive device.

Location of Incident: 1100 block of Parque Drive, Chico.

Victim: State of Ca.

Suspect: Three 17 year old Juvenile males from Chico.

Narrative: On 5/6/08 at 1025 hrs, the Chico Police dispatch center received reports of possible gunshots heard in the 1100 block of Parque Drive. Responding Officers were told that two to three juvenile males were seen running from the area and entering a nearby apartment. Officers set a perimeter around the apartment. Officers made verbal contact with a juvenile male inside the apartment who exited at their request. This juvenile told the Officers that it had not been a gunshot, but rather a “chemical bomb” that he and two friends had detonated.

Officers called into the house and got one more of the juveniles to exit but the third would not come out. Officers were eventually able to enter the apartment and take the third juvenile into custody. This third juvenile was hiding; probably due to his having an outstanding warrant for a probation violation.

The juveniles were later booked on a felony charge of possessing a destructive device. The juvenile who hid from the Officers was additionally charged with delaying Officers and a probation violation.

The device in this incident was similar to the type found recently at Bidwell Jr. High School. Detectives will be investigating the possibility that the two incidents are related.
